Our Essential Beliefs
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and distinct, yet are one God.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days, demonstrating His power over sin and death and giving hope to everyone who follows Him. Today, Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father in Heaven, and will return someday soon to reign as King.
The Holy Ghost is coequal with the Father and the Son. He is omnipresent in the world, making men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He is promised to every believer, and was given to the Church on the day of Pentecost. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. We also believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost, as seen in Acts 2, as a separate experience for the believer.
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth and guidance for living in a way that is pleasing to God.
People are the supreme object of God’s creation, made in the spiritual image of God. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God, called “sin”. Sin is the source of our separation from the Lord and will ultimately lead to eternal separation if not forgiven.
Salvation is God’s free gift to us through faith in Jesus Christ. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Salvation comes by trusting in Jesus as God’s offering for our forgiveness. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus — in faith — we are saved.
