A few months ago I heard a song called “Even When it Hurts,” by Hillsong United. I thought it was a very deep song that would help a lot of people in a painful time. Little did I know that I was going to be one of those people.
About three weeks ago my papa passed away while taking a nap in his room. Writing this now, it still brings tears to my eyes. I was there in my parents home that day (that’s where my papa lived), and I didn’t know that my papa had left us during my visit. I cried myself to sleep asking God if there was anything I could have done differently? Why didn’t I go in his room and check on him? I was left with so many unanswered questions.
A few days later I had the song, “Even When it Hurts”, on repeat. I knew God was with me in that moment. I grabbed my Bible and started reading. Even though I’m still hurting, I know that God is close to the broken hearted, and that He gives us strength and heals our pain. These verses are what I find comforting during this time:
- Psalm 73:26 (NASB) — 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
- Psalm 147:3 (NASB) — 3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.
- Romans 8:28 (NASB) — 28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
- John 14:27 (NASB) — 27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
I pray that if you are going through something painful in your life that God is with you. And even when it hurts, like this does for me, that you will continue to praise His name.
